Nitish govt to pay beneficiaries of schemes through E-Kuber

The Nitish Kumar cabinet today approved a proposal to do away with payment to beneficiaries through RTGS and do it through E-Kuber banking system of the Reserve Bank of India.

The proposal of the finance department was approved at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Briefing about the cabinet decisions, Principal Secretary of Cabinet Coordination Department Brajesh Mehrotra told reporters that there was a proposal to implement e-payment arrangement under Comprehensive Treasury Management Information System (CTMIS).

In this system, payment would go directly in the bank account of beneficiaries through RBI.

Earlier, the arrangement was to disburse the money for beneficiaries scheme through bank RTGS after withdrawal of money from state treasury.

But RTGS system used to take a lot of time, Mehrotra said adding that under the E-Kuber system, the money would go straight to beneficiaries' account from treasury.

Among other major decisions, the cabinet gave its nod for spending Rs 150.71 crore as part of subsidy on diesel for irrigation in the face of drought condition and irregular monsoon in the fiscal 2017-18.

The cabinet also gave green signal to a proposal to build an international level science city to be named after APJ Abdul Kalam at a cost of Rs 397 crore in Patna.
