Venkatesh was the executive director and chief financial officer of Lakshmi Vilas Bank
Bond market specialist and treasury expert NS Venkatesh will take over as the chief executive officer of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi). Prior to taking up the position, he was the executive director and chief financial officer of Lakshmi Vilas Bank based in Mumbai.
NS Venkatesh told DNA Money, " I am looking forward to taking up the new role at AMFI to improve one of the fastest growing industries in the country. The mutual fund industry is clocking a compounded annual growth rate of 25%."
Venkatesh, who writes a weekly bond market column for DNA Money, has over three decades of experience in the banking sector including over two decades in managing treasury and international Banking. In addition, he has experience in matters relating to finance, risk management, information technology, accounting standards, audit & assurance as well as bank taxation.
Prior to his stint at Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Venkatesh was with IDBI bank for over 19 years, where held several senior positions, including that of the chief financial officer and executive director.
He was also a member of the technical advisory committee of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on money market, securities market and foreign exchange from 2011 to 2016. He was also the chairman of Fixed Income, Money Markets & Derivatives Association (FIMMDA) during the same period.
Venkatesh is a chartered accountant from the 1984 batch and a Science Graduate from Kerala University. He has done diploma in management & financial services and is also a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers, Mumbai. Amfi is non-profit trade association of Asset Management Companies (AMCs) of all Mutual Funds in India registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) under Sebi (Mutual Funds) Regulations, 1996.
