With the festivities around, this year the yellow metal is shining the brightest. Of all the days, Dhanteras, which has been celebrated today, considered to be the most auspicious day for buying gold and jewellery.

During the season, Gold sales have spurted as jewellers have also announced many lucrative offers and freebies to increase the footfalls. 

Gold prices on Tuesday opened at Rs 30,850 per 10 grams at the in New Delhi. 

The government on October 13 fixed the purchase price of Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) at Rs 2,987 per gram the subscription for which was opened on October 16.

In 2016, on Dhanteras, gold prices were settled at Rs 30,590 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, the largest commodity bourse MCX would unveil the country's first commodity options trading with gold on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras.

The gold options will be launched Tuesday on Dhanteras in presence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The country so far allowed only futures contracts for hedging in commodities.

MCX will be launching commodity Options on futures with MCX Gold 1 Kg futures contracts.

The industry had to await for this new instrument since year 2003 when then NDA government opened up the Indian commodities market.
