Starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead, 2008 action comedy film Singh Is Kinng had all the right elements to be a blockbuster. As per several reports doing the rounds, producer Shailendra Singh finally acquired the rights of the title for the sequel but since Vipul Shah refused to part with it, of sequel for the film was tentatively titled, Sher Singh.

Moreover, Ranveer Singh was offered the role to play a turbanator in the movie. But now, as per a report in Mid-Day, Ranveer has apparently refused the film he had already committed to play a Sardar in his debut director Maneesh Sharma’s next movie.

A trade source told Mid-Day, "Ranveer and producer Shailendra Singh had a couple of meetings for narration. The actor loved Sher Singh's story. But Shailendra was shocked to receive a call from Ranveer's manager and Yash Raj Films' talent management group head, Ashish Patil, who told him that Ranveer has bowed out of the film. Ranveer and Shailendra haven't communicated since then. The producer has been meeting other stars for Sher Singh."

For the uninitiated, Akshay featured in Prabhudheva’s Singh Is Bliing in 2015, the film was not termed as Singh Is Kinng’s sequel. So, Sher King will be in fact the film’s sequel per se.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranveer is awaiting the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmavat and is prepping for Gully Boys. Akshay, on the other hand, has his hands full. Apart from wrapping up Gold, he awaits the release of Padman and 2.0 and is currently prepping for Kesari.
