Nothing is a taboo in Bollywood. Not anymore. Akshay Kumar spoke about open defecation in 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' and will soon be seen as 'Padman', the man who introduced sanitary pads to women in his village and Amitabh Bachchan didn't shy from talking about constipation in 'Piku'

So why is menstruation is a taboo? Well, that's the important question Kalki is asking in her latest video called 'GST: Girls Ko Satao Tax'.

Not just the different superstitions and cliches around periods, the video also questions why are condoms made tax-free while women have to pay 12% GST on sanitary pads.

The hard-hitting poem says how we refrain even from talking about periods while everything else that happens in the country is discussed at length including celebrities 'airport looks'. The ‘Jia Aur Jia’ actress questioned all biases around the used of sanitary pads.  She also talked about how shopkeepers sell sanitary pads wrapped in papers or polythene bags, women are not allowed to enter the kitchen and oh when they are PMSing, it's just an excuse for a leave from work.

Kalki explained how as if the discomfort that comes with periods is not enough, the government is levying further taxes on it. Women had also kickstarted a campaign urging the Government of India to abolish taxes on sanitary napkins entirely. #LahuKaLagaan (tax imposed on blood) had asked the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to exempt menstrual hygiene products like sanitary napkins from taxes that go up to 14.5 percent in some states.
