As Aiyaary nears release, actress Pooja Chopra can be seen killing it in army fatigues. Whether a soldier’s garb or the khaki, it’s not something that’s only Bollywood heroes’ bastion. Here’s a look at Bollywood actresses sporting the uniform on-screen.

Pooja Chopra
Aiyaary

In the Neeraj Pandey directorial, the actress will be seen as Captain Maya Semwal, who’s leading four army men in a covert operation. Believably, the character is a strong headed captain and the actress is paying a tribute to all strong women through her role.

Nimrat Kaur
The Test Case

Ekta Kapoor’s web series has the Airlift actress playing Captain Shikha Sharma who is the first female commando of the special forces. Like is the case in real life, Shikha has to stand her own might in a predominantly male domain. As the captain, Nimrat has a feisty and self-assured attitude. The actress went through gruelling physical and mental training for months to prep for the role.

Tabu
Drishyam

The powerhouse of performance played Inspector General Meera Deshmukh in the film that also starred Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran. As the cop, Tabu showed shades of grey and ruthlessness as she doesn’t bat an eyelid when a woman and her daughter are being beaten up mercilessly or by not flinching from the prospect of having a little girl thrashed by a junior inspector as part of the investigation to find her missing son Sam. Interestingly, however, she also showed a tender side as a mother in the film.

Diana Penty
Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran

Based on the Pokhran Nuclear Tests of 1998, Diana Penty plays an army officer in the John Abraham-starrer, which is also co-produced by him. To fit the part of a no-nonsense officer, Ambalika, the actress, who was last seen in Lucknow Central, had to take martial arts and kickboxing training. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film will release this year.

Rani Mukerji
Mardaani

One of the roles that Rani is praised for! In the crime thriller, the actress played Shivani Shivaji Roy, a brave police officer who makes it her mission to bust a child trafficking and drugs ring. She hunts down a Delhi-based kingpin Karan Rastogi (Tahir Raj Bhasin) in a bid to rescue an orphan teenager Pyaari. She uses intelligence inputs and goes beyond her legal rights and duties to complete the task.

Priyanka Chopra
Jai Gangaajal

The followup to Gangaajal (2003), directed by Prakash Jha had Priyanka Chopra in the role of IPS Abha Mathur appointed as the SP by the home minister to go soft on criminal brothers who are trying to grab land for a power plant. But, she goes all out to bring the brothers to the book. The film saw PC’s character performing slick stunts, too. After the Don franchise and Quantico, one can say that the girl can kick some butt in uniform!
