Pooja Bhatt will soon face the camera in the role of a middle-aged alcoholic yet honest, daring sleuth-cop in this upcoming untitled web series. The thriller will be adapted from the popular novel City of Death by Abheek Barua. Reveals Pooja, “It’s a dark-murky murder whodunit story, with very identifiable realistic characters. At the moment, we are hunting for a ‘hero’ opposite me, who would be 10 years younger to me. It’s a role of a tough cop who will share warm on-screen chemistry with me. Why should only male heroes have much younger heroines cast opposite them?” counters Pooja, who is also gearing up for the Sadak sequel starring Sanjay Dutt. Wasn’t it true that Pooja has been secretly aspiring to share the screen space with her stepsister Alia Bhatt? She says, “Of course, I would love to have Alia as my co-star, that too ideally under my dad Mahesh Bhatt’s direction.”

Meanwhile, the actress is trying to rescue her home-production Cabaret starring Richa Chadha, from being ‘shelved’. Justifies Pooja, “For the past eight months, I have been hoping that other co-producer-partners are able to set aside their egos and look at it from a larger perspective. Money does not make a movie, it’s the creative team behind it and their careers are at stake. My music has been sold unethically for a measly discounted price, without taking the mandatory ‘NOC’ from me, because they took me for granted, because I am a female.”

Money seems to be a bone of contention. She says, “They were not willing to even approve the optimum budget required for the publicity and advertising, which is why I refused to release Cabaret and my director Kaustav Niyogi is fully supporting me. Even after approaching the cine-trade associations, the conflicts have not been resolved. The crew has not yet been paid by my co-producers. Right now my movie is in a ‘coma’ and I will have to eventually resort to litigation to revive and release it.”
