Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmavati has been grabbing the headlines for quite sometime now. The film is still in queue to get clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Several fringe groups, including the Rajput Karni sena have been protesting against the release of the film.

Some even went on to the extent of offering a bounty of crores to anyone who beheads the protagonist Deepika Padukone or convinces her to burn herself alive (Jauhar). The movie, which was earlier slated to hit the theatres on December 1, has been delayed voluntarily by the makers.

While a number of B-Town celebs have come out in support of the film, now Rishi Kapoor too voiced his opinion on the same. In a conversation with the Hindustan Times, the actor said, "It’s very unfair that people are behaving in such an unruly manner; taking up violence and threatening in an open democracy [about] taking their lives, raising a bounty on their heads. [And that too] in a situation, where you haven’t even seen the film and are still judging it.”

He further added, "It’s a democracy and they [protesters] should be put behind bars. It’s like threatening a person with death. I am so sad that police has not taken any [stringent] action yet.”

The actor also raised the point that how can anyone judge the contents of a film, protest  and raise objections on it even before watching it? "How stupid it is to do all this without even seeing it? Even the Supreme Court has said that wait till you see the film. So, I feel that [one should] let the Censor Board take its own decision on whether the material [in the film] is suitable for people’s viewing or not. Who are these goons to bloody judge a case before that?” he said.
