Dream Girl Hema Malini got a chance to work with all three Kapoor brother: Raj Kapoor in her debut film Sapnon Ka Saudagar, she paired opposite Shammi Kapoor in Andaz and acted with Shashi Kapoor in Abhinetri. Hema Malini has distinct memories of Shashi with him being one of her co-stars in early stages of her career.

In an interview to Bollywood Hungama, Hemaji said, "I did Abhinetri with him when I had just started my career. We had a wonderful time shooting for that film. I remember the song ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa… Gaa Re Mere Sang Mere Saathiya’ where my character had to teach Shashiji to sing and dance….It was hilarious. Because he was far more experienced than me. "

Just like everyone else from his times, Hema Malini too described him as a charming gentleman. She said, "Shashiji was very urbane sophisticated and westernized. During Abhinetri he put me at ease with his pranks and jokes. He was always full of fun and yet never discourteous. I never felt I was working with an established actor."

Their jodi had its share of hits and dud which made producers wary about casting Hema Malini-Shashi Kapoor together. "We went on to do "Naach Uthe Sansar" and "Jahan Pyar Miley" with Shashiji. Though they were good films none of these clicked. And producers were reluctant to cast us together, until "Trishul" where Yash Chopraji cast us together again. We met with the same warmth even after so many years. Shashiji was a class apart. He knew how to treat a lady. When I worked with him I was sure of being comfortable on the sets. I wish I had done more films with him. I think heroines like Raakhee and Rekha did many more films with him.”

Even her husband Dharmendra shared an endearing tribute to the actor that made every one emotional. The actor shared a black and white throwback picture of a young Shashi Kapoor sitting with legendary actor Raj Kapoor.

He captioned the image, "You have been a childhood admiration, a wonderful actor and a beautiful human being. This world is going to miss you Shashi!!"

Shashi Kapoor passed away at the age of 79 on December 4th after battling with prolonged illness.
