The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to inaugurate the much-needed skywalk at Enayathulla Mekhri Circle, near Ganganagar Bus Stop, on Bellary Road, within a few weeks. The skywalk was to be inaugurated on February 6 but due to the delay in completing water pipeline work by Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), BBMP had to postpone the scheduled inauguration.

The skywalk on Bellary Road has been built by Rajdeep Buildcon, a private agency, at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. M Nagaraju, corporator, Gangenahalli ward, while talking to iamin said that the agency has also agreed to pay Rs 23 lakh to BBMP per year as a fee for using their land for constructing the skywalk. The company will generate revenue by providing space for advertisements on the skywalk.

Nagaraju further said that Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has agreed to shift the bus stop from Indian Air Force main gate to a spot near the skywalk which will decongest the bus stop to a large extent.
Last week, on February 6, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Mayor N Shanthakumari inaugurated two skywalks at Marathahalli Juncton and Christ College on Hosur Road.
