A suicide prevention call resulted in a harassment complaint against a professor of the Gujarat University.

At around 1.30 pm on Sunday afternoon, the helpline number of Mahila Police received a call from a girl who was about to commit suicide. “The girl was at the Riverfront and was planning to end her life but she called the helpline. She told the counsellors at the other end that she was taking the drastic step as she was tired of being harassed mentally and physically by her professor,” said a source in the know.

After counselling, the girl registered a complaint with the Ellisbridge police station in which she accused an economics professor Pradeep Prajapati of harassment.

According to the complaint, the girl — a former student of GLS University — had enrolled for PhD with the Gujarat University and had Prajapati assigned as a guide.
