The members of All Gujarat Parents Association and Shiksha Raksha Maha Abhiyaan on Thursday put across a demand to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) secretary to remove Class 12 board.

In an attempt to have less pressure on children, the parents association members are demanding removal of Class 12 board exams.

Naresh Shah, president, All Gujarat Parents Association said, "Many states have done away with Class 12 board as it puts unnecessary pressure on the students. As it is, after Class 12, students appear for the competitive exams like JEE and NEET that do not require board exam scores. Hence, the burden should be removed.

On Thursday, we met AJ Shah, chairman, GSHSEB and explained him our demands. Removal of Class 12 board exam will also ensure the state government saving up to 500 to 600 crores which is spent on the staff and conducting the examination. We have suggested that Class 12 should have regular exams instead of boards. Many times, schools also threaten children by not issuing admit card to appear for boards to put pressure on them to pay fees", Shah added.

The issue will be discussed during the executive council meeting to be held on February 17.
