After the blaze at Vardan complex's commercial unit of Naranpura area, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Gautam Shah felt a dire need of training citizens about the usage of fire safety equipment.

"There are many who learn after the incident. In the first place, people should not reside in a commercial unit by breaching civic body bylaws. After the shocking pub incident in Mumbai, we have spoken to the fire officials here," said Shah.

"We have decided that the fire department to organise awareness campaigns about fire safety and train people on how to use fire-fighting equipment," added Shah.

Shah informed that the civic body has formed a committee to inquire the case. A team of civic body officials will also start visiting such premises which may be at risk of catching fire. The panel will be headed by deputy municipal commissioner Arjav Shah. "Apart from investigation committee, we have asked FSL to give a report on today's incident. We will conduct an audit for similar places also," Shah said.
