In an attempt to help college students spend their summer vacations productively, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, this year, is offering a Swachh Bharat summer internship. Under the internship, students will have to take up a project to promote cleanliness by indulging in voluntary work of 100 hours at any village of their choice.

The circular issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) stated: "In pursuance of the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission launched as a national movement on October 2, 2014, MHRD in association with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, has launched a Swachh Bharat Summer Internship programme."

The UGC qualified this internship as being eligible for (2) academic credits like an optional paper. The internship is open only to registered students of higher educational institutions. Each institution is required to assign at least one nodal officer who shall be registered on the website and will guide the students through the internship.

Students will have to register and report through their internship period at https://sbsi.mygov.in, which will be launched on April 25. On completion of the internship, the best three interns or team of interns will be awarded and their names will be forwarded for eligible awards at University/state and national level.

The registration for the summer internships will open on April 25 and close on May 25, the circular stated.
