A case has been lodged with the Surat police station on Friday against PAAS convener, Hardik Patel for politicising a rally which was conducted for social and education purposes.

The Election Commission of Gujarat has lodged a case regarding the matter with the Surat police station under the Gujarat Police Act 1951, Section 36(A), Power of Commissioner or the District Superintendent and of other officers to give direction to the public, 72(2).

The section says that a cop may arrest someone without warrant and impose a penalty for flouting the rule.

As per officials, Hardik was given police permission to conduct a rally in Punagam of Surat on December 3 for social and education purposes. As per permission point number 14, he was not allowed to politicise the rally by using any political names.

During his speech in the rally, he used political names, regarding which a complaint was lodged with the Surat police station against him for not following the norms of the permission.

The case has been registered and further investigation regarding the matter is going on.
