The agitating Bharwad community members on Monday finally agreed to accept the body of Khetabhai Bharwad, who had succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Khetabhai had sustained injuries in a clash between members of the Bharwad and the Darbar (Rajput) communities in Morbi district on Thursday.
The community leaders agreed to accept the body after the government accepted most of their demands, including an inquiry against police officials who failed to protect the Bharwad community members during the clash.
Director General of Police (DGP), Geetha Johri, had met the leaders of Bharwad community and announced an inquiry against Morbi DSP, Jaypalsinh Rathod for his alleged involvement in the clash.
Inspector, Bharatsinh Parmar and sub-inspector RM Bhojani have been transferred with immediate effect.
The inquiry against Rathod will be conducted by four IPS officers —Mohan Jha, additional DGP, Admin and DN Patel, Rajkot range, IG, while names of two other officials are yet to be announced.
“The people of Bharwad community agreed to accept the body of Khetabhai as most of our demands had been agreed to. In addition, the families of the deceased will get police protection,” said OBC & SC/ST Ekta Manch, state vice-president Mukesh Bharwad.
Meanwhile, one person of Bharwad community, Ramesh Pawar Bharwad was arrested by the police in Naroda for circulating lewd comments about Rajput community women on WhatsApp group called ‘Rajputana Yuva Sangathan’.
Two similar complaints were registered at Makarba police station in Vadodara in which two persons have been arrested.
