College principals, teachers hold peaceful protest

To celebrate Justice Day, nearly 50 college principals and 450 teachers observed a peaceful protest on Wednesday seeking implementation of the 7th pay commission. The protest was held at Gujarat University campus and members of Gujarat University Teachers Association (GUATA), state federation of All India Federation of Teachers and Principals etc participated in the protest.

To celebrate Justice Day, nearly 50 college principals and 450 teachers observed a peaceful protest on Wednesday seeking implementation of the 7th pay commission. The protest was held at Gujarat University campus and members of Gujarat University Teachers Association (GUATA), state federation of All India Federation of Teachers and Principals etc participated in the protest.

Digvijaysinh Gohil, general secretary, state federation (All India Federation of Teachers and Principals) said, “Various issues faced by teachers and principals, including implementation of the 7th pay commission, regularisation of part-time teachers, 300 days’ payment, were raised. On July 24, five teachers from every college in the state will go to Delhi to join a massive protest and submit their representation.”
 
Professor Nitesh Solanki from Sadguna Arts College for Girls who participated in the protest said their aim was to seek justice peacefully.

26,000 diploma engineering seats vacant

The Admissions Committee for Professional Diploma Courses (ACPDC) on Wednesday declared the total allotment of seats. Out of a total 58,463 diploma engineering seats in 141 colleges in the state, 32,417 have been filled while 26,046 have gone vacant in the first round. Of the 32,417 seats, 14,848 belong to general category, 3,962 are for scheduled caste, 3,914 for scheduled tribe, 53 for defence and 9,640 for OBC candidates. A total of 1,938 students received tuition waiver. Of the vacant seats, 2,340 are in government colleges and 23,706 are in self-financed colleges. 

On day 1 of medical admissions, a total of 15640 pins were sold to students after which the registration will begin on July 13.
