On another occasion, BJP councillor from Vejalpur ward Dilip Bagaria would have attracted some appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for connecting with the people through social media sites. However, what Bagaria chose to post on Facebook was not a eulogy for the pro-digital PM or the party, but the apathetic system that has resulted in the bad condition of roads in his constituency. It is to be seen how his party will take that.

On Thursday, Bagaria uploaded the copies of two letters of communication-cum-complaint on Facebook, after angry voters asked him what kind of work and action he was taking to address the poor condition of roads. The letters, about the poor quality of road work in his area, were the ones he had emailed to officials concerned

“People have voted for me and I am answerable to them. But there are certain things I have to explain to them and this is the best way I could think of. Many of the roads in Vejalpur area were not in good condition and needed repair,” said Bagaria. His post has received 502 likes and 185 comments, besides getting shared 19 times.

“When road repair was going on in May, I found that the roads were not repaired the way it should be. The road from Jivraj cross road to Baliyadev Mandir was repaired in February. But, the road was not cut or aligned properly and the material was not used properly,” Bagaria pointed out.  He has also mentioned the same in the letter, which was e-mailed to the deputy municipal commissioner, with a CC to the mayor, municipal commissioner, standing committee chairman and road committee chairman.

Bagaria wrote (and emailed) his letter on July 7, when, after a light spell of rain, ‘the repaired’ road in his area was damaged. In the communication to the deputy municipal commissioner, he demanded a vigilance inquiry into the road repair work and said that no one has the authority to waste public money like this. He also demanded strict action against the ‘culprits’.
