The police have recovered one of the bikes used by the shooters of Angadia worker Arvind Patel, who was shot dead on Friday by four unidentified bike-borne men who fled with his bag with Rs 5 lakh worth of valuables.

Investigations have revealed the bike was stolen one day before the shoot-out.

Around 7 in the morning of Friday, Patel was standing near the Gujarat Vidyapith ST bus stand to get to Deesa, when four people on two bikes approached him and tried to snatch his bag. When Patel resisted, they fired two rounds of bullets in the air. After a scuffle and three rounds of bullets fired, Patel fell to the ground outside and died on the spot, the police said.

After gunning Patel down, the four fled the spot on their bikes, and headed towards Usmanpur crossroads.

Vadaj police launched an investigation and, on Friday night, recovered an abandoned bike from Chandkheda area. The cops said it was one of the bikes used in the murder-robbery case.

Further investigation revealed that the bike belonged to Bharat Prajapati, a resident of Babusingh Tomar Ni Chali area in Meghaninagar.

That very night, the crime branch interrogated Prajapati and he told the cops that the bike belonged to him but had been stolen from his house on March 15. He said he had lodged a police complaint about the theft.
Inspector JA Rathava of Vadaj police said, “After the bike was recovered from the Chandkheda area, we have started recovering CCTV footage from the streets the accused likely travelled  to get more leads on them.”
