Amdavadi lemon juice vendor uses water from public loo

Remember the Paani Puri vendor in Thane who was caught on camera peeing into a vessel that he used as a serving bowl for his customers? This Amdavadi lemon juice vendor probably took a clue from that incident, only instead of peeing into the bowl, he used water from a public toilet.

Sounds disgusting? But this happened here in Ahmedabad, and the video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday. The video shows the vendor filling his canister with water from a public toilet. The pay-and-use toilet facility is run by NGO Aryabhatt Seva Sansthan. The incident took place in Panch Kuva.

"This is a shocking incident. We are going to fine the NGO and also to the vendor. This is sheer negligence and this is not permitted," said Dr Bhavin Solanki, medical officer in charge of health, AMC. "The NGO will face a notice and hefty penalty. Also, we have asked our team members to conduct an inspection to find out whether similar incidents are taking place or not."

He said that the water could be contaminated as the water tank of the public toilet might not be regularly cleaned. "Drinking such water can cause many diseases. People are advised to report such cases if they come across them," he added.

People from nearby villages come to Panch Kuva for shopping every day, and they consume these drinks. "After watching the video, I was shocked and vowed not to drink such beverages. If in need, I will consume packaged drinks only," said Atiq Saiyyad, a regular shopper.
