West Bengal Education minister Partha Chatterjee today asked rival factions of Trinamool Congress students' wing to sink differences and work together.

"I here see two groups standing separately.

"Why will it be so? Why can't they (rival factions) sink differences and stay united?," the senior TMC leader asked.

Chatterjee came to the 'Naba Barshobaran' function organised by TMCP students' union at Calcutta University's Alipore campus when he suddenly made the comment.

In the same vein, Chatterjee said, "Apparently admission of students have become the main objective of students union these days. Let Calcutta University be a place of learning and not a place of disturbance." Stating that it had never been the situation during his college days, Chatterjee said "When I was in student politics was not the same."

There had been instances of students' union factional clashes in some colleges in West Bengal in recent times.
