The Supreme Court, which today heard the plea filed by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) for approving Urdu as one of the regional languages in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) by the Medical Council of India (MCI), fixed the matter for further hearing till March 31.

Speaking in support of the matter, lawyer Ravindra Garia stated this matter is prolonging as the Centre doesn?t bother to send petitioner the copy in advance.

?The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already filed a petition in advance. Now, one and a half month is left for the exams to start so the Centre should decide soon,? Garia told ANI.

The students? organisation had earlier demanded the MCI to include Urdu so that the fate of students, who formally studied in Urdu medium, may not be left at stake.

Earlier this month, the Centre had submitted before the apex court that it is open to the idea of conducting NEET exams, a common entrance test for admissions in MBBS and BDS courses across the country, in Urdu from the next session but expressed its inability to add Urdu in the NEET this year, 2016-17 sessions.

Later on, the Centre said that it would be impossible to include the provision for NEET 2017.
