Choosing the right book in your teens is an important step in the journey of exploring books as well as understanding life a little better.

There are classics, which have been influential in the early 1900s and will continue to do so for years to come.

On the other hand, there are books, which are on their way to making history.

PG Wodehouse

If wit and humour are what you are looking for then nobody can beat PG Wodehouse. The feather-brained 'Bertie Wooster', the amazing valet 'Jeeves' and the verbally dexterous 'Psmith', have gained an iconic status in the literary world. Wodehouse captures the humorous side of life in his books. His notable works are Right Ho Jeeves, Thank you Jeeves, Laughing gas, and The code of the Woosters.

Agatha Christie

The unquestionable queen of crime, Agatha Christie is synonymous with mystery, crime and suspense. The little detective Hercule Poirot who employs his 'grey cells' to solve a crime, and the elderly spinster detective Miss Marple are a treat for the reader. Her notable works are And then there were none, Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murder on the Orient Express.

Balancing elements that make sense with some that do not brings us to the conclusion that — life is crazy yet beautiful. If you haven't read Alice's adventures in Wonderland and Through the looking- glass and what Alice found there, put it down on your TBR list.

C.S Lewis

The magical world of Narnia is the best place to go to when you are in a funk. Being throned as the king and queen, fighting the evil to protect your people, and gaining knowledge and lessons in life from the wise 'Aslan' are what fantasies are made of. Lewis's world instills the values of doing good deeds and seeing the good side of people. You've got to pick up the seven-book Narnia series as part of your vacation read.

JK Rowling

Rowling needs no introduction. Her Harry Potter series has gained cult status among children and adults alike. Magic, friendship, love and courage are the recurring themes in her books. Besides the Harry Potter series, Fantastic beasts and where to find them, and the Cormoran Strike series under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith are an absolute must-read.

Rick Riordan

If mythology is your calling then Rick Riordan is the author for you. Incorporating fiction and mythology, his books bring a modern flavour to the ancient mythologies. Greek and Egyptian mythologies couldn't have been made more interesting. Begin with the Percy Jackson series, and then move on to Kane chronicles and The Heroes of Olympus.

Suzanne Collins

From the depths of poverty, war and pain rises a girl who leads the people into freedom and independence. This is the crux of Suzanne Collin's Hunger Games' series. Her books bring out the tragedy, pain, determination and the power of people to the forefront. Besides the Hunger Games trilogy, Underland Chronicles also makes for a wonderful read.

RK Narayan

There are only a few who have understood India as well as R.K Narayan. Capturing rural India through the fictitious town of Malgudi, heartbreaks that the youth face, to Indian mythology, Narayan has covered it all. He is one of the pioneers of Indian literature in English. His notable works are Malgudi Days, The Guide and Swami and Friends.

APJ Abdul Kalam

One of the biggest inspirations for the youth is Dr. Kalam. His books talk about the faith he has on India's youth and the bright future he sees for India. His autobiography Wings of Fire brings out the dedication, hard work and perseverance needed to become successful, and is highly inspirational. You can also read his other books India 2020, Ignited minds and A Manifesto for Change, which are hugely inspiring.

Sudha Murthy

The noted social worker and writer has brought the virtues of charity and hospitality through her narratives. Eye opening stories of generosity and the general state of man make her books heart-wrenching and beautiful. Her books Wise and Otherwise, How I taught my grandmother to read and other stories and The Old man and his God: Discovering the spirit of India are what delightful stories are made of.
