The Film and Television Institute would be set up on a campus of over 50 acre at a cost of Rs 200 crore, as an extended campus of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, in Kolkata, the Information and Broadcasting minister said.
The Centre will also build a permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) at Aizawl in Mizoram, he said.
The two institutes would provide quality training to the youth by catering to their needs and aspirations, Naidu said while conducting a review meeting of the programmes and policies in north east with the officers of the I&B ministry here.
By imparting the quality training, the institutes would serve as talent creators and talent hubs in the region, he said.
The permanent campus of IIMC at Aizawl, to be developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 25 crore, would be developed as a media training hub for the north east region and south east Asian countries, Naidu said.
Highlighting the various Film Festivals that the Information and Braodcasting Ministry has conducted in the north-east, the Minister said that the medium of cinema is powerful to send across the message of peace and development in the region.
The National Children's Film Festival (NCFF), which recently ended in Guwahati, showcased value-based award winning movies from the Children's Film Society of India's catalogue.
A special edition of 'Fragrances from North East' also showcased movies from the north-eastern region throughout the country in order to raise awareness and enhance people-to- people contact, the minister added.
