5/10 top dailies from Hindi; Bhaskar cedes top slot to Jagran

Reflecting the overall circulation trend, the latest data by Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) has revealed that five of the top 10 dailies are in Hindi, as Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar have continued to lead the growth chart in the second half of 2016.

Reflecting the overall circulation trend, the latest data by Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) has revealed that five of the top 10 dailies are in Hindi, as Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar have continued to lead the growth chart in the second half of 2016.

The Times of India is the only English title in the top 10 slot, which is also shared by two Malayalam dailies and one each from Tamil and Telugu.

In the first half of 2016, Dainik Bhaskar had led the chart with 38,12,599 copies in circulation while Jagran trailed with 36,32,383 copies.

But Jagran toppled Bhaskar with 39,21,267 copies during the July-December 2016 period, up from 36,32,383 copies in the January-June 2016 period.

Dainik Bhaskar came in second with 38,13,271 copies in the second round, as against 38,12,599 copies in the first round of 2016.

The Times of India, the only English newspaper to feature in the top 10 list, had 31,84,727 copies in circulation during the July-December 2016 period, compared to 27,31,334 copies in the January-June 2016 period.

Hindi dailies Amar Ujala and Hindustan came in at the fourth and fifth slots with 29,61,833 copies and 2,611,261 copies, respectively.

During the first half, Amar Ujala had 29,38,173 copies, while Hindustan had 23,99,086 copies.

The Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama is the sixth largest circulated daily with 24,41,417 copies during the reporting period, followed by the Telugu daily Eenadu with 18,66,661 copies in circulation.

Hindi daily Rajasthan Patrika occupied the eighth slot with 18,40,917 copies, followed by the Tamil newspaper Daily Thanthi with 17,10,621 copies and the Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi with 14,73,053 copies.
