A total of 3,296 officers of central government were awarded various punishments by the Central Vigilance Commission for alleged corruption in the year 2016, Lok Sabha was informed today.

The reply by Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Jitendra Singh said that in 2016, the Commission imposed major penalties on 1,904 officers, minor penalties on 1,034 officers, and 358 faced administrative action.

In 2015, a total of 3,592 officers faced CVC action while in 2014, 2,144 had faced the action.

"These would include action taken on advice tendered during the previous years too," the Minister said about the data provided in the response.

The data shows sanction to prosecute 154 officers was given by various departments in 2016, while in 2015, 132 such sanctions were given and in 2014 the figure was 133.
