A chain-snatcher, who attacked a police team in an attempt to escape, was shot by the police.

Ram Singh (35), from Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, was on a bike when he was stopped by the police near a vehicle check-post in Soladevanahalli on Tuesday night.

Instead of stopping, Singh tried to knock down a police constable. He then ran away, leaving his bike behind.

Other policemen at the check-post called for reinforcements and a larger team of police rushed to the spot. They combed the eucalyptus grove where Ram Singh had disappeared into.

A team of police, led by the Nandini Layout Police sub-inspector Somashekar, found Ram Singh. When Somashekar asked him to surrender, Singh stabbed a constable. Somashekar then fired Singh in the right leg.

The accused along with the injured constable, Imam Sab, was rushed to a nearby private hospital.
