BMRCL calls tender for multi-level Silk Board flyover

A massive road-cum-rail flyover at Silk Board junction, supporting metro lines and carrying road traffic at multiple levels, will come up in the next two and half years, if the plan chalked out by the BMRCL comes to fruition.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has called tender for the construction of the flyover, including its loops and ramps measuring a length of about 2.8 km.

The work also includes road widening allied works that come under the RV Road-Bommasandra line.

The new structure will be built above the existing flyover and provide a seamless connection between BTM and HSR Layouts and Electronics City.

Two metro lines - RV Road-Bommasandra and Silk Board-KR Puram - will be the part of the project.

The BMRCL has fixed a 27-month deadline for the project estimated to cost Rs 133.54 crore. While the last date for submission of technical bid is May 21, officials said the evaluation may take two weeks.

"Technical evaluation and financial bidding may take about a month. Since the project is funded by international institutions, we have to take their approval before awarding the contract," BMRCL Public Relations Officer U A Vasanth Rao said.

Demolition deferred

The road and rail bridge on the single pillar will replace the Jayadeva flyover, whose demolition has been deferred as the contractor was yet to complete the allied works, including road widening.

However, a senior official familiar with the project said the work at the Silk Board need not wait for the demolition of the Jayadeva Flyover.

"Right now, road widening and alternative routes are more important for us. Once these are ready, we will see whether we can start the work at the Silk Board junction and bring down Jayadeva Flyover in the subsequent days," he said.

Namma Metro's Phase 2 has been delayed by a year. Officials have already extended the deadline by over a year, from 2020 to March 2021.
