Hyderabad varsity suspends PhD scholar for misconduct with faculty

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has suspended a PhD scholar for six months and imposed fine on two others for alleged misbehaviour and indiscipline with a faculty in the psychology department.

Linga Swamy Baikini, former NSUI state committee member and campus in charge has been barred from accessing any facility including the hostel in the university for six months. He was also fined for Rs 30,000.

The other two students given the punishment by the Proctorial Board based on a complaint by the faculty member with the administration are Tahir Jamal, a PhD scholar of comparative literature and Hakeem, an M.Phil student in the same department.They both were asked to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

According to the order signed by the registrar on 2 April, the complaint of acts of misconduct and indiscipline was made on November 28 last year and the enquiry report was submitted in the first week of March this year. The registrar has warned the students against involvement in activities other than their studies.

This is the second such incident being reported in the last few months. Late last year, Kaluram Palsaniya was also handed a suspension order along with a fine for abusing a Dalit Economics professor. The order, however, was later revoked.
