Hatred, vengeance form basis for Modi's governance: Rahul

Congress president Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was governing the country based on the principles of hatred, anger and vengeance.

Addressing the party's Janaashirvad Yatra here on Tuesday, Rahul said the country would not progress if it was governed based on these principles. "A careful study of the Indian history shows that people have defeated those who have governed the country on these lines. I have seen prime ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, A B Vajpayee, P V Narasimha Rao, who governed the country based on the principles of love and faith and not on hatred or vengeance."

"US President Donald Trump said only India and China could take on the US in the world. But, Modi does not believe in integration, but in hatred, revenge and anger," he said.

Rahul termed the alleged dilution of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act an attempt to weaken the laws that protected the oppressed classes while criticising Modi's silence on the issue. "The prime minister has not commented on the scam involving Nirav Modi because Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's daughter works for the former's company. Modi also does not speak on how Jay Amit Shah (BJP chief Amit Shah's son)'s company grew rapidly after he became the prime minister."

Rahul said: "When Modi was sitting in a swing chair with the President of China, they (Chinese) were constructing roads and airport in Doklam."

Rahul said Shah, for the first time, had spoken the truth when he called the Yeddyurappa government the most corrupt, in a slip of the tongue. The CBSE question paper leak also found a reference by Rahul, when he said the Modi government failed to prevent the leak.

"Instead, Modi asks students to study well for exams. On one hand, question papers are leaked and on the other, election dates get leaked. This is an example of Modi's governance."

Earlier in the day, Rahul participated in a road show. Since the poll conduct was in force, no banners or hoardings were put up to welcome the Congress president.
