In a bid to exert pressure on the Centre, DMK on Friday announced it would hold black flag protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his proposed visit to Chennai on April 11 for the delay in constituting Cauvery Management Board as per Supreme Court order.

The principal Opposition party, which has 89 MLAs in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, also announced the convening of a meeting of like-minded parties on April 1 to decide the future course of action to be taken on the sensitive Cauvery river water issue.

The decisions were taken at the DMK's Executive Council meeting on Friday that also demanded cancellation of a nod to the expansion of Sterlite Copper Plant in Thoothukudi and dropping of INO Neutrino project in Theni district.

"DMK has decided to hold black flag protests against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Chennai on April 11 as a mark of protests demanding immediate constitution of Cauvery Management Board. I will myself participate in the protest," Stalin told reporters after the meeting.

He said invitations for the "all-party meeting" would be sent to all Opposition parties. To a question whether DMK MLAs will resign in a bid to put pressure on the Centre, Stalin replied: "If the AIADMK MPs and MLAs resign, our MPs and MLAs will follow suit the next minute."

Meanwhile, a meeting of all farmers' association held under the aegis of the PMK resolved to observe day-long bandh on April 11 demanding constitution of CMB. "Since the bandh is being called to protect the interests of the farmers, we request people from all walks of life to participate in the bandh and make it successful," PMK MP Anbumani Ramadoss said.
