Rain leaves parts of Bengaluru partially waterlogged

Rain on Friday evening left parts of the city partially waterlogged.

Koramangala residents bore the brunt of the rains with sewage water clogging their streets. Streets of 5th A Cross, 9th Cross and 8th Cross in Koramangala 4th Block were filled with sewage water and the residents found it difficult to step out of their homes.

"There is no power supply in the area and the road is filled with water. It has hardly been a few months of recovering from the rain floods that lashed the locality. Seeing this, we are worried again," said Suma Kiran, a resident.

Residents living in areas like C V Raman Nagar, Kodichikkanahalli, Gayathri Nagar, Hosakere, Singasandra, K P Agrahara, and Vijayanagar have approached the BBMP with complaints and requests to help them drain the water that has entered their houses. The parking space at Vijayanagar metro station was also filled with rainwater.

"We have received more than 10 complaints where water has entered homes," said a BBMP official.

Mayor R Sampath Raj said that the BBMP is equipped to manage the situation. "We have deployed praharis (patrol vehicles) at all those places where water has entered homes. Even the uprooted trees have been removed. There will not be any untoward situation," he said.

This rainfall is a result of the formation of low pressure over Lakshwadeep and adjoining South East Arabian sea with an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 1.5 km above the Mean Sea Level.

This will cause rainfall in most parts of the state for the next two days. India Meteorological Department (IMD) also forecasted thunderstorms. The city has received rain of 30 mm till 8.30 pm on Friday. The rainfall was scattered at 7 pm. HAL Airport has received 15.4 mm of rainfall.
