Fire at gram panchayat office turns records to ashes

The gram panchayat (GP) office in Yaraballi village of Hiriyur taluk, Chitradurga district, was set on fire on Tuesday.

Hundreds of land and other records pertaining to the GP have turned to ashes.  

Police suspect arson by miscreants who live in that area somewhere.  

Once earlier, the inner rooms of the GP had been destroyed by fire.  

Tuesday's incident has made GP members and staff anxious.  

In recent times, the tahsildar had received frequent  complaints of discrepancies in the functioning of this GP.  

Imangala police visited the spot.
