JOIN USUdupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje said that 'Sakhi', the one-stop centre at Udupi is the first-of-its-kind in Karnataka. It will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Maneka Gandhi on March 5.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the MP said that 'Sakhi' acts as a support system for women in distress. Women who are in distress can approach 'Sakhi', which will take care of all necessary requirements to ensure justice to the victim. It acts as the complaint registering authority, counselling centre, medical facility centre and also offers shelter to the victims. She said it offers legal aid apart from solving physical and psychological problems. She added that each state receives one centre and the centre in Karnataka is set up at Udupi.
She said that the BJP's Jan Suraksha Yatra will be inaugurated by Union Minister Prakash Javedkar at Ankola in Uttar Kannada district on March 3 and the concluding ceremony will be attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Mangaluru on March 6. The yatra is taken up by BJP to create awareness among the masses over the corrupt and unstable Congress government in the state. She said BJP would also be demanding justice for the deaths of 25 Sangh Pariwar activists in the recent past. She said that the state is second in the list of high crime recording states. Law and order mechanism in the state has completely collapsed. Women's safety is in danger. Women are attacked even during broad daylight, which itself signifies the declining quality of law and order in the state.
Coming down heavily on the state government, Karandlaje said that the government expected 3 ½ lakh crore investment at the Investors Meet. Sadly, the state has received only Rs 37,000 crore investments, she said.
The tourism sector in the state is also witnessing a severe debacle as the tourist numbers have decreased drastically owing to the unsafe environment in the state. Insecurity in life is being borne by all sections of the society, including bureaucrats who are attacked, killed and harmed for reasons unknown, she alleged.
The MP said that the Central government has approved the passport office at Udupi which will be located in Brahamavar post office.
Elaborating on the Ujjwal scheme, wherein after the survey done in 2011, BPL cardholders are given LPG cylinders and a stove, the parliamentarian said that as many as 11,177 families in Udupi and 11,460 families in Chikkamagalur are beneficiaries of the scheme till now. Another 22,000 in both Udupi and Chikkamagalur districts are targeted and will be given LGP sets shortly.
The Central government has sent Ujjwal Ratha to Udupi and Shivamogga districts to tour all over the villages, she said.
