Country's first planetarium with 3D hybrid tech opens in Pilikula

Science and Technology, Planning and Statistics Minister M R Seetharam, on Thursday, inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda 3D Planetarium on the premises of the Regional Science Centre at Dr K Shivarama Karantha Nisargadhama, Pilikula near here.

The planetarium, enabled with 3D hybrid technology and featuring an 18 metre- nano-seam dome set to 15 degrees along with Active 3D, 8K digital and Opto Mechanical (Hybrid) projection system, is the first of its kind in India. The planetarium has been set up with grants from KSTePS (Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society) of the state government.

The minister said that the 3D planetarium, facilitated by 3D hybrid technology, will channelise the younger generation towards constructive study and research of astronomy and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the region.

Seetharam said that the Pilikula Development Authority Bill had been passed in both Houses of the legislature. The same had been sent to the Governor for his   approval.

Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohiyuddin Bava released a brochure on the planetarium. An exhibition on astronomy and satellites was inaugurated by district incharge Minister B Ramanath Rai.
