Soharabuddin case claims another judge: Rahul

With Parliament set to resume next week, Congress President Rahul Gandhi sought to turn the focus on Judge B H Loya's death by raising questions over the transfer of judges hearing the Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

"The Sohrabuddin case claims yet another Judge. Justice Revati Dere, who challenged the CBI has been removed. Judge J T Utpat, asked Amit Shah to appear and was removed. Judge Loya asked tough questions. He died. #HowDidLoyaDie," Gandhi said on Twitter as the Congress launched a social media campaign in an attempt to bring the case back into the political discourse.

Gandhi also appended a news report on Bombay High Court judge Revati Mohite-Dere being taken off the Soharabuddin case. She was hearing a number of petitions challenging the discharge of senior Gujarat Police officers in the Soharabuddin fake encounter case.

On Saturday, Justice Mohite-Dere was assigned matters concerning anticipatory bail applications instead of criminal revision applications.

Congress also saw a "strange pattern connecting case involving (BJP President) Amit Shah and judges hearing those cases."

"What the country wants know (and urgently) is: #HowDidLoyaDie," Congress asked on its Twitter handle.

"Togadia, Padmavati, Sridevi etc. etc. – Diversions will keep coming. But we must keep asking #HowDidLoyaDie," Ruchira Chaturvedi, National Social Media Coordinator of the Congress, said.

"We cannot afford to get distracted, we need to keep asking #HowDidLoyaDie," the All India Professionals Congress said on its Twitter handle.

Earlier this month, Gandhi had led a delegation of opposition MPs from 15 political parties to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the death of special CBI judge Loya.

Judge J T Utpat was transferred as the special CBI judge days after he had rapped Amit Shah for not appearing before the court upon being summoned. Loya succeeded Utpat.
