Stars who left us too soon

The death of India's first "female superstar", Sridevi, at 54, has come as a shock to the film industry and the millions of  fans. 

Sridevi, however, is not the only star to have left us too soon. The list is rather long.

The list includes singers Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi, music maestro RD Burman, Vinod Mehra, Geeta Bali and Smita Patil. 

Some of the finest actors taken before their time were Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan, who played Thakur and Gabbar Singh in 'Sholay'.  

And no one can forget Guru Dutt, one of the finest directors in Indian cinema, and silver screen queens Madhubala and Meena Kumari.
