Symposium on recent advances in malaria research today

K S Hegde Medical Academy, a constituent college of Nitte Deemed-to-be-University, in association with the National Institute of Health and Penn State University, USA, will organise a national symposium on recent advances in malaria research at KSHEMA, Deralakatte on February 24.

Addressing reporters here on Friday, Nitte Deemed-to-be-University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary B said that the symposium is aimed at improving knowledge and skills to combat malaria in the region. The scientific sessions at the symposium will focus on malaria biology and allied areas. Also, the special frontline areas such as drug resistance to malaria, placental malaria, immunology and pathophysiology, entomology, epidemiology and molecular biology of plasmodium infection will be touched upon.

Eminent speakers will deliver lectures on related topics. Physicians from rural and urban areas across Mangaluru will attend the symposium to share their experiences with the research fraternity, he said.

Penn State University Professor Dr Channe Gowda D, KSHEMA Biochemistry department Professor Dr Suchetha Kumari N, Pathology department head and K S Hegde Medical Academy Vice Dean Jayaprakash Shetty were present at the press meet.
