Judge attacked during morning walk in Bihar

Last Updated 21 February 2018, 12:28 IST

Unidentified miscreants attacked a judicial officer in Bihar while he was on his morning walk.

The incident took place at Naugachia in Bhagalpur district when the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Santosh Kumar, along with his wife, was on his regular morning walk outside his residence on the court campus, adjacent to the National Highway (NH)-31.

"Four armed men reached there on a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and fired at him. The judge, in self-defence, fired at the miscreants, who eventually ran for safety. The judge caught hold of one of them. But when the judge tried to nab the other assailant too, the apprehended person freed himself and fled," a source from Bhagalpur informed.

No one was, however, injured in the firing incident. The police, however, denied that the judge was fired upon. "The judge was  on his morning stroll when two youths came right in front of him on his track. The judge asked them to move aside. The youths, however, abused the judge and asked him not to act smart. The judge retaliated and fired in the air (with his service revolver) while trying to apprehend the youth," a police source said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Naugachia police station after the judge submitted a written complaint.

However, when the Naugachia SP, Pankaj Sinha, did not visit the place of occurrence, the lawyers got angry and boycotted the court work throughout the day.
