In a shocking incident, a senior Mumbai-based  TV journalist was attacked by a group of passengers inside a local train on Wednesday morning.

The journalist, Sudhir Shukla, who works with a Hindi national news channel, sustained injuries in the attack that took place between Mira Road and Andheri railway stations of the Western Railway route.

Shukla is being treated at Dr R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital at Juhu. The Andheri police station of Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case and investigations  are in progress.

The issue started when Shukla was boarding a local train at Mira Road. "I was being prevented from entering the train by the group of passengers who have blocked the footboard, however, I pushed and managed to get in. This led to the argument, they then beat me up and injured me," Shukla had told the police.

Shukla, who was bleeding, got down at Andheri and went to the GRP unit and also informed his colleagues and other media persons. They even tried to snatch his phone when he tried to click pictures.

"We would take strong action against the accused," GRP's Deputy Commissioner of Police Purshottam Karad.

CCTV   footage of the Mira Road station is being secured to zero in on the culprits.

For passengers of Western Railway, particularly those who stay in suburbs between Borivli-Virar is an issue while travelling from both ends – North end during the morning peak hours and South end during the evening peak hours – as people standing on footboard block the passage causing problems. Sometimes, they gang up and prevent entry. Besides, complaints to authorities do not yield any result.
