A case has been registered against former K R Puram Block Congress president Narayanaswamy for threatening to set a BBMP ward office on fire.

The incident occurred on February 16 but came to light on Tuesday after a video clip went viral.

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy informed the Assembly that he has directed Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar to register a suo moto case and take stern action against Narayanaswamy.

KPCC president G Parameshwara suspended Narayanaswamy from the party membership for six years.

Sources said Narayanswamy is a close aide of K R Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraju and is also close to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

In the video clip, Narayanswamy is seen abusing Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO) Chengal Rayappa and intimidating him by pouring petrol over the cupboards and furniture at his office.

Narayanaswamy had instructed Rayappa to issue a Khata for a land he owns in Horamavu which is under litigation.

Rayappa said he cannot issue the Khata as the matter was before the court. This infuriated Narayanaswamy.

A BBMP staffer was recording the entire incident on his mobile phone. The staffer then uploaded the video footage on social media.
