Last Updated 16 February 2018, 16:15 IST

Alleging that the duty doctor at Virajpet government hospital gave wrong information on the 'death' of a man who had attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison, villagers staged a protest in front of the hospital on Friday.

It was said that Eerappa (52) of Peggarikadu in Bittangala GP had attempted suicide on Thursday. The villagers admitted him to the hospital. The duty doctor declared him dead without treating him.

Later, when the villagers demanded first aid for the patient after police visited the hospital, the doctor started treating the patient. After receiving first aid, the victim woke up and started speaking. The villagers alleged that the ambulance driver demanded a bribe of Rs 500 for shifting the patient to the district hospital in Madikeri.

The villagers demanded action against the duty doctor as well as the ambulance driver.

Medical officer of the hospital, Dr Vishwanath Simpi said that action will be initiated against those who had committed the mistake.
