BJP to oppose proposed Bahmani Sultanate Utsav

Last Updated 14 February 2018, 19:02 IST

BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday warned that her party will stiffly oppose any move by the state government to organises Bahmani Sultanate Utsav' in Kalaburagi.

Addressing reporters here, the BJP lawmaker said the government is "secretly" making arrangements to organise the Utsav on March 6. The BJP would take all measures to ensure that the government does not go ahead with its plans, she added.

The state government had already disrupted peace in the state by organising Tipu Jayanti. Unheedful of the violence during Tipu Jayanti, the government had "conspired" to further fuel communal tension by organising the Bahmani Sultanate Utsav, she said.

No such plans: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, however, said that his government has no plans of organising the Utsav. "Which Bahmani Sultanate Utsav? I don't know anything," he said.

When reporters brought to his notice that Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, who is Kalaburagi district incharge minister, had made such an announcement, Siddaramaiah told reporters to seek the clarification from the minister himself.

Dr Patil, in an interaction with reporters in Kalaburagi on February 11, had discussed the government's plans of organising the Utsav.

Sources said that the proposal to organise the Utsav came up during a meeting chaired by the minister recently to discuss arrangements being made for 'Rashtrakuta Utsav' at Sedam in Kalaburagi district.

The Rahstrakuta Utsav is being organised at Malked in Sedam on March 4 and 5. Dr Patil represents Sedam constituency in the Legislative Assembly.
