Finish steel bridge by November: Mayor directs BBMP officials

Last Updated 06 February 2018, 18:54 IST

Mayor R Sampath Raj has ordered BBMP officials to wrap up the Sivananda Circle steel bridge by November.

On Tuesday, Raj inspected the flyover work with his deputy Padmavathi and BBMP officials. "We were supposed to start the work by July 30, but local residents moved the court which has ordered the construction to continue," Raj said.

While     local residents argued in the court that the flyover is built in violation of the Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines, the Mayor said there could be exceptions  in  a few cases.

"We initially planned a 326-metre flyover, but have extended it to 483 metres. This will also increase the number of pillars from six to sixteen in the stretch. The cost would also proportionately increase," said BBMP's Chief Engineer-Project Central KT Nagaraj, adding that it would be a steel-concrete composite structure.
