Members of the Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) laid a siege to the office of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) here on Wednesday, and demanded the resignation of Mayor B Bhagyavathi, who has been elected recently.

The activists, who gathered in front of the MCC office, intercepted the car of the mayor as she entered the premises, and shouted slogans against her. They warned her of intensifying the protests if she fails to resign in a week.

"She was elected as a Corporator, as a Congress candidate, but, she ditched the party to become Mayor. She sided with the JD(S)-BJP coalition and became their candidate for mayorship. She was elected from Ward 23 on a Congress ticket. The people elected her as a Congress candidate. Now, she has ditched both the party and the people, who voted for her, due to her greed for power," they said.

They said, her election will remain as a black mark on the century-old civic body. Mohsin Khan, Rafique Ali, Rajendra, Syed Abdulla, Raghavendra, and Vivek were present.
