At least five persons were drowned while five others were reported missing on Wednesday after a boat capsized in River Ganga in Fatuha, some 30 km from Patna.
The boat was carrying 15 people when the mishap took place. Five persons swam to safety.
The victims had gone to Mastana Ghat in Fatuha where hundreds of people had assembled for the holy dip on the occasion of Magh Purnima.
"Senior district officials rushed to the place of occurrence. Five bodies have been recovered so far. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the victims," said an official.
