Three-term BJP Lok Sabha member Chintaman Wanaga died on Tuesday morning after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 67.

However, government sources said that the presentation of the Union Budget would take place as scheduled on February 1.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan is expected to make an obituary reference to Wanaga and proceed with the presentation of the Budget.

The Lok Sabha will not meet on February 2 to mourn the death of Wanaga.

A similar situation had arisen last year when former Union minister E Ahamed passed away on February 1, the day the Budget was to be presented.

The Lok Sabha did not meet the following day as mark of respect to the departed soul.

Wanaga complained of chest pain on Tuesday morning and suffered a massive heart attack as he was being taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

"He was brought to RML hospital around 11.15 am. We tried to resuscitate him for 30 minutes but he could not be revived. He was declared brought dead at around 11.45 am,"  said RML Medical Superintendent Dr V K Tiwary.

BJP president Amit Shah, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hansraj Ahir visited the hospital to pay their last respects to Wanaga.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Wanaga played an important role in building the BJP in theThane region and did commendable work for the welfare of tribals.

Born on June 1, 1950, Wanaga was elected to the Lok Sabha from Palghar in Maharashtra.

He was a member of the 11th and the 13th Lok Sabha as well.
