Bidar bandh: Demonstrators pelt stones, police lathi charge them

Last Updated 30 January 2018, 08:29 IST

Incidents of stone throwing occurred in Bidar city when a protest against the murder of a school girl in a village in Balki taluk, suddenly turned violent, here on Tuesday.

Police resorted to lathi charge to restore order.

The Hindu Hitharakshana Vedike had called for a Bidar Bandh.

MP Bhagavant Khuba was mildly injured in the lathi charge. Over 25 others were also hurt. Police vehicles were damaged. Currently order has been restored.

Khuba demanded a judicial inquiry into the lathi charge and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.

Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sena, ABVP and district Savita Samaja, had all supported the bandh. All shops remained closed since morning.

"We had not given permission for the procession to enter old Bidar city (which has a bigger Muslim population). Hence the stone throwing," said police sources.
