A court has convicted a man of assaulting Basavanagudi traffic head constable Shantha Veeranna during a drunk-driving check in February 2014.
The Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Venkanna B Hosamani, sentenced Munawar Pasha, of Avalahalli, to three years' imprisonment and fined him
Rs 20,000. Half of the fine will be paid to the policeman as compensation.
On February 23, 2014, Veeranna, along with a sub-inspector, was conducting a drunk-driving check near the Lalbagh West Gate. Pasha drove up in a luxury car around 12.15 am. He picked a quarrel with the police and assaulted Veeranna.
An FIR was later registered at the Basavanagudi police station under IPC sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
