New beat system will be introduced in Udupi: SP

Udupi SP Lakshman Nimbargi has said that a new beat system would be introduced in the district wherein the district police would be taking up awareness programmes in all schools and colleges on crime-related activities and the precautionary measures to be taken.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a phone-in programme here on Friday, he said that the complaints received are addressed immediately with effective follow up. Following the previous phone in-programme, three cases were registered and thirteen were arrested in matka related cases, three gambling cases were registered and 15 were arrested, three NDPS cases were registered and six arrested, 30 under COTPA, six under drunken drive cases, 19 shrill horn related cases, 306 cases registered for riding without a helmet, 20 on using mobile while riding and driving and 36 rash driving cases were recorded after the last phone-in programme. Another 344 cases were registered over other violations. More than 800 cases were lodged under IMV Act in the past one week. He said the phone-in programme would be held regularly and policing in the district would initiate improved quality of functioning.

As many as sixteen complaints were received during the phone in-programme held on Friday.

A majority of the complaints were on matka that were reported in Shirva, Gangolli and Byndoor police station limits. A complainant from Udupi complained about the problems of traffic on both the stretches on either side of Court Road. The SP promised to look into the problem and directed the traffic police to get the details. The wine shop at Adi Udupi was another problem that was brought to the notice of the police head to which he replied that he would ask his men to take up the issue. The SP promised to hold talks with the Bus Owners' Association about avoiding noise pollution inside buses following a complaint that he had received. The complainants mentioned high-decibel music being played inside buses.
